The Engendering of Ethnic Groups in the Republic of Turkey, maps and book

Speaker: Dr Peter Andrews

Ethnic Groups in Turkey, and the accompanying maps, are the most important single reliable source of information on the distribution of ethnic groups in Turkey. In this presentation, Peter Andrews explains the genesis of the project, how it unfolded over more than twenty years, the methodology that came to be utilized, and the reactions that the publications received.

In 1987 The Tübingen Atlas of the Middle East (TAVO) published a map of the distribution of ethnic groups in Turkey by Peter Alford Andrews. This was followed in 1989 by a handbook which provided the documentation on which the map had been based, and in 1999 by a supplementary volume. These remain the single most reliable source of information on the subject.
