Religion, Ecology and Expressive Culture Initiative

The Yale Institute of Sacred Music’s Religion, Ecology, and Expressive Culture (REEC) Initiative is pleased to announce that the next round of applications for the 2025-26 academic year is now open. We invite proposals by scholars, artists, religious leaders and others working at the intersection of religion, ecology, and expressive culture. The deadline for the current round of applications is October 30, 2024.

Applications may include proposals for conferences, theater performances, art exhibitions, webinars, or panel discussions. We are especially excited about events that engage with diverse sacred practices, rituals, and the arts to address issues of pressing environmental concern, particularly around the initiative’s three themes—Extraction and Disposal in Expressive Culture; Ritual Natures: Expressive Culture and the Natural Forms of Trees, Water, and Rocks; and Sacred Cosmologies, Environmental Change, and Expressive Culture.

For submitting applications, more information about the application process, as well as information about past and upcoming events, visit the the Religion, Ecology and Expressive Culture initiative website
