The University of Tromsø, Norway, has long established links with West Africa through Prof. Lisbet Holtedahl the anthropologist and filmmaker who established the Visual Cultural Studies programme almost 20 years ago.

Australian filmmaker Gary Kildea (Trobriand Cricket, Celso & Cora, Koriam’s Law) has been with VCS since 2008. One of the films, Juarke by Mohamadou Saliou was the winner of the Wiley-Blackwell Student Film Prize at last year’s RAI film festival
